To open our season, we will present a collection of powerful works including the world premiere of “PlayFolk” by South African director and choreographer Bradley Shelver, and company premiere of the alluring solo “The Calling” by award-winning choreographer Jessica Lang. This concert will also feature an exciting new work, “Something About a Dream” by Artistic Director Kirven Douthit-Boyd set to the music of Buddy Rich and other beloved jazz legends.

The company’s 2023 glamorous gala event will create long-lasting memories of stunning dance repertoire, live music, dinner, cocktails, and after-party. Join our community of movers and shakers as we build together the future of The Big Muddy Dance Company. Be the first to see the company premiere of “The Calling” by Jessica Lang, and a powerful world premiere “PlayFolk” by South African choreographer Bradley Shelver in COCA’s Catherine B. Berges Theatre. Our master of ceremonies will be Travis Cummings of KSDK.

Our winter concert will bring captivating evenings of dance to our audiences. Join us as we present 3 programs that highlight our journey towards new levels of our artistic identity! Be the first to witness the world premiere of “New Ritual” by choreographer Sidra Bell, Artistic Director of Sidra Bell Dance New York. This engagement also marks the return of audience favorite, and deeply personal work Cloud 9 by Norbert De La Cruz III.

PICTURE STUDIES

Join us for an exhilarating evening of live music and dance at the Stifel Theatre! This collaboration features music performed by the St Louis Symphony Orchestra composed by Emmy Award-winning and Grammy nominated artist Adam Schoenberg, with choreography by Artistic Director Kirven Douthit-Boyd. 

Saturday, March 16 at 7:30pm
Sunday, March 17 at 3:00pm

A progressive dining and dance showcase event, featuring intimate dance vignettes from the 23/24 Becoming Season’s repertoire throughout the Grand Center arts district.  Each performance is paired with curated eats and cocktails by David Kirkland Catering, giving each audience member an incredibly immersive experience and the chance to see the Walls off Washington mural exhibit, curated by Kranzberg Arts Foundation. 

Our spring concert will showcase the work of multifaceted creatives who are trailblazers in their respective artistic communities. We will conclude our 23-24 season with 3 programs to include world premieres by 2021 Guggenheim Fellow Tommie-Waheed Evans whose work intersects movement vocabulary that blends cultural forms and contemporary dance vocabularies, with narratives that are often rooted in the black experience, and 2022 Princess Grace Award Winning choreographer and director Omar Román De Jesús who uses his work to express the complexities of Latinx identities.
